Black Forest Cake Martini

BLACK FOREST CAKE MARTINI

What’s for dessert? Consider a delicious cake as a martini – complete with cherry, rich chocolate, and even fluffy whipped cream.

Ingredients:

1 oz. Banff Ice vodka

½ oz. Bols Cherry Brandy liqueur

½ oz. Creme de Cacao liqueur

2 oz. vanilla almond milk

Method:

Ice a martini glass to chill. In a shaker, add ice and pour ingredients over top. Discard the ice used to chill the glass. Strain shaken ingredients into the martini glass and place a cherry on a pick on the edge of the glass. Add a small amount of whipping cream and enjoy.

Tips:

Any dairy or dairy substitute will work. Vanilla almond milk adds some extra flavour to the martini. Try adding chocolate shavings to garnish the martini for an extra chocolatey finish.

Coco Mojito

COCO MOJITO

Relax and refresh with a light tropical flavoured mojito. Fresh mint, lime citrus and coconut create this cocktail that’s not too sugary sweet. It’s perfect for those warm sunny days to come!

Ingredients:

2 oz. Cruzan coconut rum

½ oz. simple syrup

6 mint leaves

2-3 lime wedges

3 oz. coconut water

Sprig of mint for garnish

Method:

Muddle limes, mint, and simple syrup. Add crushed ice and pour into Cruzan coconut rum. Stir to mix ingredients. Add more crushed ice and top with coconut water. Garnish with mint sprig.

Tips:

Simple syrup is made with equal parts of sugar and water.

Cruzan coconut rum is naturally flavoured so the tropical taste is enhanced by mixing in coconut water.

Crushed ice is nice in mojitos because it helps to keep the fresh muddled ingredients in the lower portion of the glass.

Devil’s Manhattan

Devil’s Manhattan

Tantalize your taste buds and treat yourself with rich flavours and subtle complexities of the Devil’s Manhattan. Notes of caramel, oak, sweet whiskey, aromatic herbs and spices stir into a one of a kind drink. Something that tastes this good, should be a sin.

Ingredients

2 oz. Maker’s Mark Bourbon

1 oz. Southern Comfort

1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth

3 Dashes of Angostura Bitters

Lemon twist garnish

Method

Start by putting ice into a martini or cocktail coupe to chill the glass. In a mixing glass with ice pour the Maker’s Mark and the rest of the ingredients. Stir with a long spoon until chilled (30 to 90 seconds). Discard the ice that is chilling our glass and then strain our stirred drink into the glass. Peel a long thin strip of lemon, roll it up then extend it while twisting it over the cocktail. Let rest hanging over the rim.

Tips

Stirring this drink causes less dilution (watering down) from the ice melting than shaking it would.

There are many ways to modify this drink to find your favourite. For example, try using Maker’s Mark 46 which is incredibly smooth and rich in flavour from longer aging. Or substitute a different type of bitters for an enhanced flavour of your choosing.

Pineapple Mojito

Pineapple Mojito

April is the beginning of pineapple season and that means it’s time for juicy ripe pineapples. I couldn’t resist using them in one of my favourite drinks — the mojito.

Using Brugal Anejo (aged) rum from the Dominican Republic, for its smooth oak and caramel flavours, I mixed it with ripe sweet pineapple and refreshing mint.

A cocktail can be more than just something to drink, and this one will give you a vacation!

Ingredients

2 oz. Brugal Anejo rum

6 mint leaves

4 chunks of pineapple (1/2 cubes)

crushed ice

Top with soda

Garnish with a pineapple wedge and sprig of mint

Method

In a tall glass, start with pineapple chunks and mint, muddle to press the juice and oils out. Fill with crushed ice and pour Brugal Anejo rum over top. Stir to mix flavours from the bottom and the rum together. Add more crushed ice and top with soda. Place our garnish and serve.

Tips

Mojitos usually contain some sort of sugar for sweetness. We don’t have any added sugar in this drink because the pineapple is sweet enough, and we are not using any lime which would alter the drink to be a little more tart.

Using an aged (Anejo) rum adds more flavour to your mojito than using a white rum.

Tequila Smash

Tequila Smash

Time for a change. A new season, warmer days, brighter drinks. This has inspired me to share this cocktail with you today. The Tequila Smash is simple and fun to make. Our base is formed from fresh fruit flavours of ripe strawberries and citrus orange mixed with tequila, which is made with 100 per cent Agave and has a subtle hint of oak, forming a very smooth fruity cocktail. Re-awaken your senses to prepare for the warmer days ahead. Cheers!

Ingredients

2 oz. Hornitos Reposado Tequila

2 strawberries cut in half

1/2 an orange cut into wedges

7Up (optional)

Garnish with a strawberry and orange peel.

Method: In a shaker glass, place fresh fruit and use a muddle to press (smash) the juices out. Pour in Hornitos Reposado Tequila and add ice. Shake vigorously and pour into a glass. Place garnish and straw. Enjoy!

Tips: Tequila mixes beautifully with fresh fruits like these. You can use other fruit flavours instead of the orange and strawberry very easily. Try pineapple, ruby red grapefruit, or peach.

The option of adding 7Up is there if you would like to extend the flavours by adding more liquid as well as adding a little fizz.
