57 Brunch
57 Brunch
When the season changes and the temperature falls, I embrace spirits full of flavour with smooth oak notes.
Dock No. 57, a smooth Canadian whisky spiced with a hint of vanilla, cinnamon and caramel, blends nicely with apple juice and fizzy ginger ale. The whisky is named after the historic shipping dock in Windsor, Ont., where Canadian Club is produced.
Drinks like this make it easier to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall.
Ingredients
1 oz. Canadian Club Dock No. 57
2 oz. Apple juice
2 oz. Ginger ale
2 dashes cinnamon
Garnish with a cinnamon stick
Method
Pour apple juice, two dashes cinnamon and Dock 57 into a shaker. Shake with ice and then strain into a glass with new ice. Top with ginger ale and garnish with a dash of cinnamon and a cinnamon stick.
Tips
Spiced whisky is not as sweet as a spiced rum so it’s a great choice for those who don’t what a sugary tasting spirit.
Look for apple juice that says “not from concentrate” on the label because using juice that’s not from concentrate will always give you a better tasting drink.

How to Video: Making No. 9 Eggnog cocktail
No. 9 Eggnog Cocktail
Every good holiday host should have a special eggnog cocktail recipe to share with friends and family. This is what I will be serving this year. The No. 9 Eggnog is a rich, thick and creamy eggnog softened by the light sweet vanilla in the Cruzan 9 Spiced Rum.
Sweet and spice makes everything nice!
Ingredients
1 oz. Cruzan 9 Spiced Rum
4 oz. eggnog
Cinnamon sugar for rim
Dusting of nutmeg
Method: Combine 1 tsp. of cinnamon with 2 tsps. of white sugar on a small plate or a napkin. Moisten a portion of the rim on your favourite holiday glass with a lemon, then roll/dip the rim in the cinnamon sugar.
Add ice and pour in a generous portion of Cruzan 9 Spiced Rum. Pour in eggnog and give your drink a stir to mix the liquids. Finish with a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg on top.
Tips: Mixing with eggnog is always a hit during the holidays. I like a light spiced rum that doesn’t add additional sweetness to the already richly sweet eggnog.
The Cruzan 9 Spiced rum has a lighter sweet vanilla taste compared to other spiced rums. It is spiced with 9 different spices — allspice, vanilla, pepper, ginger, mace, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and juniper berry.
If you like, replace the nutmeg with some of your favourite spices found in the Cruzan 9 to enhance those taste notes.
