Ginger Mojito
Ginger Mojito
Spice up your summer cocktail experience with the Ginger Mojito. Sweet rum and sour lime go great with fresh mint and a spicy hint of ginger.
Ingredients:
2 ginger slices
6 mint leaves
3 lime wedges
2 oz. Brugal Anejo Rum
Top with ginger ale
Mint leaves and ginger slice for garnish
Method:
In a mixing glass, place lime wedges, ginger slices and mint leaves. Press with a muddle to release the oils and juices. Add ice and pour in Brugal Anejo Rum. Shake to mix and chill, then pour into a glass. Add more ice and top with ginger ale. Finish with a garnish of a mint leaf and ginger slice on the rim.
Tips:
Feeling like it needs more spice? Add more ginger slices or substitute ginger beer for the ginger ale.
Desire something a little on the sweeter side? Add a half ounce of simple syrup.
Using an aged rum like Brugal Anejo adds more flavour to your mojito than a white rum.
Stormy Weather
Stormy Weather
Whatever life brings us, even through Stormy Weather, our true friends will help us through.
To help us through the long weekend and celebrate, let me introduce you to a great cocktail full of spice and rich aromas.
Make use of that leftover wine, in this case Shiraz, combine it with rich aged rum, a splash of lime, and top with fizz and ginger spice. Cheers!
Ingredients:
1.5oz Brugal Anejo rum
0.5oz lime juice
0.25oz simple syrup
1.5oz Shiraz red wine
Ginger beer
Half lime wheel for garnish
Method:
In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour lime juice, simple syrup, Shiraz and Brugal Anejo rum. Cap with a shaker tin, shake, and pour into a glass. Top off with more ice and then add ginger beer until the glass is full. Garnish with a half lime wheel on the rim.
Tips:
This recipe works great when you have leftover wine. It can easily be prepared in a punch bowl when serving a large group.
Dark and Stormy
Mother nature throws all kinds of weather our way this time of year but in this case we are the ones making things “Dark and Stormy.”
This week’s cocktail was created by sailors on long voyages who had access to rum from the tropics. They came up with a flavourful combination of ginger beer and dark rum that became popular in many port cities.
Sweet Dominican aged dark rum is brought alive by the fiery ginger beer and held together with citrus lime.
Dark and Stormy
Ingredients:
2 oz Brugal Anjeo Rum
4 oz Fentimans Ginger Beer
1 lime wedge
Method:
Ice your glass, pour in the Brugal Anjeo Rum. Top with Fentimans Ginger Beer and squeeze a wedge of fresh lime over top before dropping it into the drink.
Use another lime wedge for a garnish.
Tips:
Although this cocktail is simple to make, the different botanical brewed beverages add exceptional complexity.
Try another one of my favourites: Fentimans Curiosity Cola (a full-bodied, ginger-infused traditional cola). Use it any drink that calls for coke as the mix.
